Description
In preparation of polymeric nanocomposites by radiation curing, we synthesized polymerization active silico-organic nanoparticles. With these polymerization active ligands, they formed crosslinks and matrix in radiation cured nanocomposites. With regard to the process, there was a polymerization activity imparted to the particle surfaces, thus applying physico-chemical modification scheme of a heterogeneous copolymerization to the materials. In this works, we investigated various factors that may influence the properties the material such as the amount of silica/acrylates in the system. These materials were cured by ultraviolet light and electron beam irradiation. Properties of the cured coatings were characterized using Universal scratch tester and Taber abrasion tester. (author)
