Low neutron scattering study of structure and crystal lattice dynamics in Fe-Mn-C alloys

Description

Using elastic and inelastic neutron scattering, octahedral coordination of carbon atoms in a wide range of Mn concentrations in Fe-Mn-C steels is confirmed. It is ascertained that the spectrum of metallic matrix vibration does not practically vary with a change in Mn and C content. The increase in carbon atom local mode halfwidth by a factor of 2 after 70% cold rolling of 120G16 steel has been shown experimentally. Cluster model, which describes satisfactorily carbon local mode halfwidths in the approximation of deformation interaction, has been suggested
