Properties and structure of new ternary stannides of rare earth with high tin content

Description
The results of study of the structure and properties of new compounds R2NiSn6(R is Ho,Er,Tm) and RSn3-x(R is Tb,Dy,Ho) are presented. The existence of new binry and ternary stannides TbSn3, DySn3, HoSn3, Ho2NiSn6, Er2NiSn6 and Tm2NiSn6 is established. The crystal structure of binary compounds belongs to the GdSn3-x type, ternary - to the Lu2NiSn6 type. The temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility of these compounds corresponds to the Curie law except for the X(T) dependence of GdSn3-x, for which it is described by the Curie-Weiss law, Lu2NiSn6 compound is Pauli paramagnetic. Electric conductivity of the phases at greater than 200-260K temperature varies with temperature, that is caused by conductivity electron scattering on photons at higher than Θ, and differential thermo-e.m.f. has small values typical for metals
