oxidation of some P/M processed Ni Al - base alloys

Description

aluminides are materials for high temperature applications and those of high Al content are of particular interest owing to their low specific weight and expected good oxidation resistance. deviation from stoichiometry and alloying of intermetallic compounds are under extensive investigation in recent years. the materials investigated in this work include substoichiometric β-Ni Al(42 at.% Al), Ni Al-9.43 at.% Cr,Ni Al-17.12 at.% Cr and Ni Al-15 vol.% Y2O3. these alloys were produced by reactive hot isostatic pressing of the appropriate mixtures of pure elemental powder and Y2O3.The present work discusses the cyclic oxidation behavior of these materials in air in the temperature range 800-1200 . the effect of cycle time on the weight change is also studied at 1000-1200 degree. The weight change values were evaluated using ± 10 μ g accuracy balance
