Raman effect in rhenium monocrystal

  • 1. AN SSSR, Sverdlovsk. Inst. Fiziki Metallov

Description

The Raman effect of the 5d transition metal of rhenium at room temperature is studied with the help of He-Ne (lambda=6328A) and He-Cd (lambda=4416A) lasers and DFS-24 spectrometer. Polarized measurements on samples with different orientation of the hexagonal axis confirm the interpretation of the line in the spectrum observed as one-phonon scattering on transverse optical phonons. The measured value of the transverse optical mode frequency ωsub(To)=120.5 +- 0.5 cm-1 does not correspond to the theoretical calculation of phonon spectrum of RaO and Ramananda. The eigene width of phonon mode constitutes 3.5 +- 0.5 cm-1. At exciting by the lambda=4416A line scattering sross section increases 7 times, without taking into account the trivial growth proportional to the 4 th power of the frequency
