Study of quality and workability of titanium-nickel alloy ingots

Description

The quality of a cast and deformed alloy of the titanium-nickel system of stoichiometric composition was studied. It has been established by microroentgenospectral analysis and density measurement that the upper part of the ingot is enriched by titanium, while in the middle portion the central zone is enriched by nickel as compared with the periphery. It is shown that the material has a very high plasticity margin in the temperature range from 700 to 900 deg C. The deformed material has a grain size of about 20 μm. At temperatures above 1050 deg C a brittleness zone is revealed, which is due to the fusion of the Ti2Ni-phase along the grain boundary
