Price shield: nuclear is protecting French households against the energy crisis. Energy prices crisis: price shield and role of nuclear energy

Description

Whereas the French government has just decided to implement a strict price shield to face the increase of energy costs in Europe, the author discusses the role which nuclear energy plays within this context. She outlines that the electric power market is related to gas prices, and that the present crisis is related to several factors (international context with the war in Ukraine, post-Covid situation, non-availability of French nuclear plants for technical problems). Then, she discusses the role of the regulated access to historical nuclear energy or ARENH, the price difference between France and its neighbours, and the funding sources defined for the energy price shield
