Distribution of uranium surface soil around operating uranium industries of Turamdih region, Jharkahand

  • 1. Health Physics Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay, Mumbai (India)

Description

Economically viable grade of uranium deposits are reported in Singhbhum region. During the last decade new sites have been explored for mining and processing of uranium in Turamdih sector. The process residues, mine waste and liquid effluent have a potential to modify the pre-existing radiological status of the environment. Accordingly, samples are collected from environmental components around the disposal sites for evaluation of impact, if any. Distribution of uranium in lithosphere around the waste disposal sites of Turamdih is presented in the text. Findings reveal that there has been insignificant variation in uranium level in the region during the last decade. (author)
