Description
In Malaysian Nuclear Agency, fire alarm system at Block 15, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 23 only are centralized to Emergency Control Centre (ECC), Block 15. However, the other fire alarm system at various blocks such as Block 13T, 29 and 29T are stand-alone. Hence when the fire alarm triggered at these respective blocks, the ECC will not receive any status or signal that will lead to misinformation at critical times. The centralized fire alarm system project was developed specifically to solve this problem. This paper will explain the development of a user friendly and low-cost fire alarm monitoring system using Programmable Integrated Circuit (PIC) 18F4523 microcontroller with ENC28J60-I/SO, Ethernet Controller. The details of peripheral components and interface to enable the output electronic signal to be transmitted using Ethernet will also be discussed. (author)
