Description

This paper investigates the corrosion that had occurred within the waterside of glass lined reaction vessels on a multi-purpose manufacturing unit. Looking particularly at the parameters which influence corrosion rates and evaluating how the water treatment program could be modified to reduce corrosion rates. The investigation showed that severe underdeposit corrosion was occurring and that some of the reaction vessels had a lifetime of about 5 years. The cooling water treatment was modified to use an advanced zinc treatment. This reduced corrosion rates in the reactor jackets which has extended the expected lifetime of the reactors and reduced maintenance and unscheduled shut-downs on the site
