Measurement of the heavy ion beam energy on the Orsay Alice accelerator

Description

Two magnets can be used to measure the heavy ion beam energy on the ALICE accelerator. They have been calibrated using the recoil proton technique for absolute energy determinations. For one of them the calibration, has been checked using an excitation function threshold. After calibration, the precision for both magnets is about +-0,5% for the measured beam energy. During the same study, the validity and precision of the previous energy determinations (calculation from the acceleration parameters, measurement by magnetic deviation) have been estimated

Abstract (French)

Deux aimants pouvant etre utilises pour la mesure des energies d'ions lourds delivres par l'accelerateur ALICE ont ete calibres. Les mesures absolues d'energie etaient effectuees par deux methodes independantes: la methode des protons projetes et la determination d'une fonction d'excitation au voisinage du seuil. Cette calibration permet d'obtenir une precision de l'ordre de 0,5% sur les energies mesurees par ces aimants. La meme etude a permis d'estimer les incertitudes liees aux determinations d'energie anterieures a cette calibration (energie calculee d'apres les parametres d'acceleration, et energie mesuree par deviation magnetique)
