Availability of rock phosphate with low P content in some Albanian soil: use of 32PO4

Description

The availability of a calcareous low P content rock phosphate (4,3% P) was measured. This Albanian ore was used, in pot experiments, on various local soils whose the pH is situated between 4,9 to 7,5. This phosphate was labelled with 32P and 45Ca in a reactor. The residual effect of this fertilizer was deduced from the results of isotopic dilution kinetic of phosphate ions realized in soil-solution systemes. The main results can be summarized as follow: 1. When the soil-water pH was higher than 6,1, the utilization coefficient of phosphorus was minus than 1%, even with 5,5 mounths. 2. The ratio of P and Ca derived from fertilizer and taken up by the crop is most generally different of those measured in the fertilizer. It depends of the soil constitution. 3. The analysis of isotopic dilution kinetic of phosphate ions shows that in the major part of these soils, whose the fixing capacity is very high, the rock phosphate and also superphosphate at 230 kg P2O5.ha-1 rate does not increase available soil phosphorus; it is only with rates over 800 kg P2O5.ha-1 that this objective can be reached. These results explain again that the fixing capacity of soil for phosphorus is a characteristic more useful for fertilization technique than the available phosphorus quantity

Abstract (French)

On a mesure l'efficacite d'un minerai de phosphate calcique a basse teneur (4,3% P), d'origine locale, sur divers sols dont les pH sont compris entre 4,9 et 7,5. L'engrais a ete marque au 32P et au 45Ca par irradiation neutronique en reacteur. L'aptitude de l'engrais a modifier de facon positive les reserves assimilables du sol a ete jugee par la technique des cinetiques de dilution isotopique des ions phosphate dans les systemes sol-solution de sol. Les resultats peuvent etre ainsi resumes: 1. Lorsque le pH-eau du sol est superieur a 6,1 le coefficient d'utilisation de ce phosphate est inferieur a 1% c'est-a-dire pratiquement nul. 2. Le rapport du phosphore et du calcium originaires de l'engrais et presents dans la plante est different de celui trouve dans l'engrais: il est fonction de la nature du sol. 3. L'analyse des cinetiques de dilution isotopique montre que dans la majorite de ces sols a fort pouvoir fixateur, l'addition de phosphorite, pas plus d'ailleurs que celle de superphosphate, a la dose de 230 kg P2O5.ha ne modifie ni la quantite; ni la qualite des reserves assimilables, le pouvoir fixateur n'etant pas diminue par les apports; seules des doses superieures a 800 kg P2O5.ha-1 sous forme soluble permettraient d'atteindre cet objectif. Ces resultats illustrent dfe nouveau que le pouvoir fixateur des sols a l'egard des ions phosphates est une donnee plus importante et plus utile a connaitre que la quantite de phosphore assimilable presente
