Analysis of the emission spectra of meteorites during thermoluminescence measurements

  • 1. School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, University of Sussex, Falmer, Brighton, Sussex, England

Description

''Three dimensional'' presentation of the emission spectra from specimens during thermoluminescence measurements reveals useful detail which is not available from conventional glow-curves. This is especially so for polymineralic samples and is proving particularly useful in the study of ordinary chondrite meteorites. Spectra from these specimens are illustrated and the relationship between emission spectra and shock/reheating and metamorphic history are discussed. Radioluminescence provides additional information especially relating to the variation of luminescence efficiency with temperature. Evidence for thermal quenching is clearly seen. (author)
