The hydrogen effect on the structure and mechanical properties of the VT20 alloy
- 1. Moskovskij Aviatsionnyj Tekhnologicheskij Inst. (USSR)
Description
The hydrogen effect on structure and mechanical properties of the VT20 alloy is studied. A method of X-ray diffraction analysis was used. Tensile and impact tests were carried out. The susceptibility to hydrogen brittleness depending on hydrogen concentration was determined. The tests carried out have shown that the amount of β phase in the alloy increase with hydrogen content. At the hydrogen content more than 0.03% the VT20 alloy shows the tendency to hydrogen brittleness. The VT20 alloy according to its phase composition may be refferred to α+β titanium alloys with low sensitivity to hydrogen brittleness
