Nondestructive testing of absorbed water content in 5-cm-thick concrete by neutron imaging

Description
Since the permeation of water into concrete or the presence of water affects the deterioration of a structure, and the permeation of water affects the durability of the structure, it is important to develop a non-destructive method to quantify the movement of water inside the concrete. The authors performed imaging to acquire a transmission image by irradiating concrete with neutron rays generated by operating a small accelerator, and evaluated the relationship between the water absorption (weighing value) of the concrete and the water content shown by the transmission image. As a result, they clarified that there is a high correlation between neutron transmittance and water absorption, and proposed a method that can quantitatively evaluate, in a non-destructive manner, the permeation of water into a concrete 5 cm in thickness. コンクリートへの水の浸透,水の存在は構造物の劣化進行に影響し,水の浸透は構造物の耐久性を左右するため,コンクリート内部における水の動きを定量する非破壊手法の開発は重要である.我々は小型加速器を駆動して発生させた中性子線をコンクリートに照射して透過像を取得するイメージングを行い,コンクリートの吸水量(秤量値)と透過像が示す水分量の関係を評価した.その結果,中性子透過率と吸水量の間には高い相関があることを明らかにし,厚さ5cmのコンクリートへの水の浸透を非破壊で定量評価できる手法を提案した。(著者)Additional details
