Interaction between uranium and neodymium in binary POCl3-SnCl3 solvent

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow (Russian Federation). Inst. Obshchej i Neorganicheskoj Khimii

Description

Solutions of neodymium (3) and uranyl in case of their joint presence in POCl3-SnCl4 binary solution (mole ratio being 15.5:1), have been studied by the spectral luminescence and electron spectroscopy methods. The conclusion is made on neodymium (3) and uranium (in the form of UO22+ and U4+) interaction in the solution with formation of UO22+ and Nd3+ heteronuclear complexes bound by dichlorophosphate bridges, which assures energy exchange between the cations. Photochemical reduction of UO22+ to U4+, resulting in UO22+ ↔ U4+ equilibrium, which shift to the right in the presence of Nd3+, has been revealed. 19 refs.; 4 figs
