Development and commercial mastering of melting technology for high-boron ferroboron using carbothermic process

Description

For nuclear power generation and other special purposes ferroboron with a high-content of boron is required. Difficulties of producing ferroboron with a high-content of boron stem both from thermodynamic features of its production process and from physical properties of the alloy. Carbothermal process providing 21-24 % boron content at low concentrations of carbon, sulfur and phosphorus in ferroboron has been developed. The content of Si and Al in carbothermal ferroboron is essentially lower than in aluminothermic one. 8 refs., 2 figs., 2 tabs
