Description

The spectrum of the QSO PKS 0528-250 has been re-observed with about 2 A FWHM resolution between 4580 and 5500 A to check the reality of the many weak unidentified lines that had been suspected longward of the predicted wavelength for Lα emission. With the improved data 10 of the unidentified lines have been rejected but 11 new ones have been added, most of which can be attributed to C IV. In the autocorrelation function of the new spectrum there are two peaks due to the C IV doublet, further demonstrating that weak lines of this ion are prevalent in the spectrum. However the corresponding Lα absorption often is missing. The emission redshift is estimated to be zsub(em) = 2.767+-0.002. (author)
