How old is the earth
Description
The physical methods for determining the age of the Earth are reviewed. The basic concepts and difficulties of the radiometric age determinating methods are summarized. One particular method the K-Ar one utilizing a mass spectrometer of Nier type is described in more details. After these experimental considerations the definition of the age of the Earth and the connection between the Earth's age and that of the radioactive atoms are discussed. (Sz.Z.)
