Development of tomography analysis method using sparse modeling

Description
Computed Tomography (CT) is a critical measurement technique for analyzing the spatial structure of various plasma phenomena. However, in plasma and nuclear fusion research, the degrees of freedom for detector placement are often restricted due to the specialized environment, necessitating image reconstruction from a limited number of projections. In future fusion reactors, it is anticipated that detector placement will be further constrained, raising concerns that conventional CT methods may not adequately reconstruct the spatial structure of plasmas. In this study, we developed a tomography method combining Fourier-Bessel series expansion and sparse modeling with L1 regularization to reconstruct images in cases where detector freedom is restricted and there are numerous missing information regions. Sparse modeling proves to be an effective approach for data obtained with limited line-of-sight information. We applied the developed method to reconstruct the mode structure in the poloidal cross-section driven by MHD instabilities. The results demonstrated that our method successfully replicated the mode structure assumed in the phantom, even with data significantly constrained by limited lines of sight. (J.P.N.)

計算機トモグラフィー(CT: Computed Tomography)は,プラズマの様々な現象の空間構造を考察する上で重要な計測手法である.しかし,プラズマ・核融合研究での CT は,その特殊な環境から往々にして検出器の自由度は制限され,少数投影からの像の再構成を余儀なくされる.将来の核融合炉では,検出器の設置自由度はますます制限されると考えられ,従来の CT 手法ではうまくプラズマの空間構造を再構築できない恐れがある.本研究では,検出器の自由度が制限され,多数の情報欠損領域が発生している場合を再構成するため,フーリエ・ベッセル級数展開法と,L1正則化を用いたスパースモデリングを組み合わせるトモグラフィー法を開発した.視線情報が限定された計測器で得られたデータに対して,スパースモデリングは有効な手法である.開発した手法を,MHD 不安定性により駆動された「ポロイダル断面におけるモード構造」の再構築に応用した.その結果,本研究で開発した手法は,視線数が大幅に制限されたデータに対して,Phantom で仮定したモード構造を再現することができた.(著者)Additional details
