Comparison of basic physical and metallurgical characteristics of steels for WWER-440 and WWER-1000 pressure vessels

  • 1. Skoda, Plzen (Czechoslovakia). Zavod Energeticke Strojirenstvi

Description

A comparison is made of the basic properties of steels used for pressure vessels of WWER-440 and WWER-1000 reactors which shows that 15Kh2NMFA (WWER-1000) steel in comparison with 15Kh2MFA (WWER-440) steel has greater hardenability and thereby better and more even mechanical properties but on the other hand is less resistant to the degradation of mechanical properties by temperature and radiation embrittlement. This fact must be compensated for by high demands on the purity of 15Kh2NMFA steel mainly with regard to surface-active accompanying elements. (author)
