High-velocity solar wind plasma fluxes and active regions on the Sun

The connection between the increase of the solar wind (SW) velocity and active regions on the Sun over the period from March, 18 to June, 12, 1971 is considered on the basis of IMP-6 data. The moments of the observation on the Earth of a sudden beginning of a magnetic storm are marked on the SW velocity time dependence. It is shown that in approximately 95% of the cases sources of high-velocity SW flux are active regions on the Sun. Variations of SW velocity and the sector structure of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) are considered during six rotations of the Sun from October, 1969 to March, /t/ 1970. The active regions are assumed to play an important role in the formation of the IMF sector structure. The hypothesis can be confirmed by the results of the correlation analysis of the connection between IMF and fields in the chromosphere
