Description

Alloys of the composition Vsub(75-x)Fesub(x)Ga25 (x=2, 10, 15, 20) have been studied in the present work. From these alloys 57Fe Moessbauer spectra were measured in the temperature range 6-300 K. The spectra show a quadrupole splitting ΔQ of 0.3 - 0.4 mm s-1. The small quadrupole splittings are due to the noncubic symmetry of the iron site and are typical for covalent iron. The quadrupole interaction of V73Fe2Ga25 (x=2, Tsub(c)=10.8 K) was carefully investigated through the superconducting phase transition, but no indication of the phase transition was seen. No magnetic hyperfine splitting was observed. This indicates that no magnetic ordering is present in the temperature and concentration range investigated. However, the presence of superparamagnetism owing to the possible precipitation of magnetic clusters is not excluded. (Auth.)
