Structural instability of the water molecule in Sr(IO3)2.H2O, a neutron diffraction study

Description
Strontium diiodate(V) monohydrate, Sr(IO3)2.H2O, Mr=455.44, monoclinic, I2/c, a=8.9003 (6), b=7.748 (1), c=9.6496 (8) A, β=90.230 (8)deg, V=665.47 (9) A3, Z=4, Dx=4.546 (1) Mg m-3, neutron radiation, λ=0.8494 A, μ(calc.)=0.0124 mm-1, F(000)=202.93 fm, T=295 K, R=0.042 for 977 observed unique reflections. The water molecules exhibit strong librational motion perpendicular to the H2O plane, shown by a large anisotropy of the O(4) thermal ellipsoid. The O-H bond length is 0.942 (2) A, the H-O-H angle 114.4 (3)deg and the hydrogen-bond length (H...O) is 1.864 (2) A. (orig.)
