Carbon-14 recovery device
- 1. Nippon Atomic Industry Group Co. Ltd., Tokyo
Description
Purpose: To attain efficient absorption of carbon-14, integrate the absorption vessel with a mist trap in a compact structure and reduce the cost in a carbon-14 recovery device. Constitution: Off-gases introduced in a recovery device are jetted from the top end of an introduction pipe into absorption liquid. CO2 containing C-14 is absorbed through gas-liquid contact into the liquid absorber, while mists of liquid absorber scattered from the liquid surface are captured by fillers and the residual gas is discharged from a discharging pipe. The liquid absorber is recovered from the liquid absorber drain pipe after the interruption for the introduction of the off-gases. When a time to attain the 90 % CO2 recovery rate was measured while setting the introduced off-gas rate at 5N liter/min, CO2 concentration in the off-gas at 330 ppm, and using 150 cm3 of monoethanolamine as the liquid absorber, it was 130 hours and no issue of mists to the discharging pipe were detected. The vessel and the mist trap are integrated to reduce the number of nozzles and simplify the structure of the device. (Kawakami, Y.)
