Nuclear magnetic resonance and voltammetry studies of carbon monoxide adsorption and oxidation on a carbon-supported platinum fuel cell electrocatalyst

Description

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy has been used in conjunction with voltammetry in an investigation of the mechanism for the electrocatalytic oxidation of CO on a carbon-supported Pt fuel cell electrocatalyst in 2 M H2SO4 at ambient temperature. The states of adsorbed CO (COads), the conditions which give rise to those states and the oxidation pathways associated with those states were investigated as a function of the extent of COads coverage and the working-electrode potential at which the COads coverage was formed (Eads).
