Commissioning of 2 kV, 12 A screen grid power supply for tetrode based 1.5 MW stage CWRF amplifier

Description

Ion Cyclotron Resonance heating (ICRH) is one of the widely used methods for the heating of plasma. In this method radio waves at 20 to 100 MHz are used for additional heating of plasma, in Aditya Tokamak of Institute for Plasma Research. High power ICRH group is involved in the development of 1.5 MW source. This high power is developed with the help of Triode and Tetrode based amplifiers. All the high power Tetrode tubes need a DC high voltage, high current Plate power supply and auxiliary supplies for Screen Grid, Control Grid, and Filament power supplies with necessary indications, interlocks, controls and protections. The power supply is installed and commissioned at IPR with all tests including regulation tests, wire burn test and heat run test etc. This paper presents results of the commissioning tests. Typical specifications, topology, protections, controls, operation sequence are mentioned. Interfacing with DAC for remote control and other features of various power supplies are also highlighted. This supply is ready now for continuous full power testing of 1.5 MW Tetrode based RF generators
