Description
The lung counting facility at Kalpakkam, used for the estimation of transuranics, consists of an array of three large area Germanium detectors fixed in a single assembly. The new door less steel room is designed to reduce the background in the low energy region. The efficiency calibration was carried out using 241Am and 232Th lung sets LLNL phantom. Efficiency as a function of MEQ-CWT was calculated for array of detectors. The 4.65 σ MDA of the high resolution HpGe detectors with low background due to steel room is 14 Bq for 241Am. The successful setting up of the lung facility enabled the in-vivo measurement of around 200 personnel annually. (author)
