The Pfeiffer source for polarized protons and deuterons
- 1. Justus-Liebig-Univ., Giessen (Germany)

Description
The Pfeiffer source designed to produce polarized beams of protons and deuterons is described. The ionization is performed in a 2.5 GHz ECR plasma with a minimum B-field configuration. The integrated turbo molecular pump was designed for atomic beam applications. Computer simulation was applied for optimizing the atomic beam system. The two short magnets used give a maximum concentration of the focused components and one of them acts as spin separator. The operation of the system and the rf-transitions used are summarized
