Oxidation reactions of acetaldoxime in nitric acid

Description
Acetaldoxime, which is an example of a novel class of salt-free organic reductants (the monoximes) has properties which make it suitable for applications in nuclear fuel reprocessing. It reduces Np(VI) and Pu(IV) ions at reasonable rates and it is stable in HNO3 solutions when [HNO3]<∼3 M and temperature<∼35degC. When so-called 'critical' conditions are reached (e.g., [HNO3]=3.8-3.9 M at 35.5degC) a rapid process of HNO2 formation and acetaldoxime oxidation occurs. The presence of Tc ions does not affect acetaldoxime stability in nitric acid. (author)
