Mutagenous effect of tritium on genital cells of mammals

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Radiatsionnoj Gigieny, Leningrad (USSR)

Description

Genetic effect of tritium on mice males depending on titanium chemical composition (THO,3H-glucose, 3H-thymidine) and comparing with γ-radiation effect has been studied. Dependence of dominant lethal mutations (DLM) frequency and reciprocal translocations (RT) on the absorbed dose in testes cells and on the time after irradiation has been studied. Absence of differences in chromosomal abberation frequencies caused by THO and 3H-glucose and detected according to DLM criteria in differentiating cells and RT in spermatogonia is shown. As far as the value of both effects does not exceed the expected one at the given dose, 3H-glucose and tritium oxide do not obviously possess nucleotropic properties
