Evaluation of induced activity for elements irradiated with 14 MeV neutron
- 1. National Research Inst. for Metals, Tokyo (Japan)
Description
The induced activity of 28 elements irradiated with 14 MeV neutron to 10 MW.y/m2 was calculated and an evaluation based on the hands-on maintenance and waste management was made. From the viewpoint of contact maintenance, most of the elements except for light elements such as Li, Be, B, C, N, O, Mg, Si, P, and S cannot be cooled down to a safety level within a few weeks after irradiation with 10 MW.y/m2. Al, Co, Ni, Cu, Nb, Mo, Sn and Ta should be restricted for use in the first wall materials of fusion reactors, either as a solution or as an impurity from the aspect of both contact maintenance and waste management.
