Description

Present work deals with the study of the distribution of natural gamma radiation and radon levels around a thorium beach sand mining and processing facility, Odisha, called as Orissa Sand Complex (OSCOM). The study area is a Natural High Background Radiation Area (NHBRA) and the external gamma radiation levels vary from 40-1800 with an average of 226 nSv/h. The observed gamma radiation levels, 86 % are more than 100 nSv/h. The average outdoor and indoor radon levels were found to be 21 and 30 which ranged between 6-41 and 18-65 Bq/m3. (author)
