From the detection to the evaluation of ultrasonic indications during in-service inspection

Description
Ultrasonic in-service inspections have a high failure detection efficiency. The defects located are classified into relevant and non-relevant defects, i.e. surface flaws and other miner flaws are distinguished from real defects. The methods of analysis used will determine the dimensions and exact positions of the defects classified as relevant. The high defect detection rate implies automatically a less efficient quantitative statement, i.e. less efficient analysis. A satisfactory combination of the two tasks is not possible at the present state of the art - maybe phased arrays would be a suitable solution - so that there is no other choice at the moment than the two-step examination described in the paper. Bei wiederkehrenden Pruefungen mit Ultraschallverfahren zeichnen sich die Suchtechniken durch hohes Fehlerauffindvermoegen aus. Die aufgefundenen Anzeigen werden bei der Klassierung eingeteilt in relevante und nicht relevante, also alle Formanzeigen, Oberflaechen- und unbedeutenden Gefuegeeinfluesse werden von echten Fehlstellen unterschieden. Mit den Analysetechniken sollen wahre Fehlerabmessungen und exakte -lagen der als relevant klassierten Anzeigen festgestellt werden. Die hohe Fehlerauffindbarkeit der ueblichen optimierten Pruefsysteme beinhaltet automatisch eine Einschraenkung der quantitativen Aussage, der Analyse. Eine befriedigende Kombination beider Aufgaben gestattet der augenblickliche Stand der Technik nicht - moeglicherweise 'phased arrays' - was die Aufteilung der Arbeit in die erwaehnten Schritte weiterhin festschreibt.
