Pulsars and a possible local origin of cosmic rays

  • 1. Erevan Physics Institute (Ukrainian SSR)

Description

Under the assumption that pulsars are indicators of the position and time of supernova explosions, which in their turn are cosmic ray sources, the energy density of cosmic rays in space near the earth is calculated on the basis of the diffusion model of the propagation of cosmic rays in interstellar space. The analysis has shown that the sources which make the main contribution to the observed cosmic ray energy density are distributed around the solar system within a radius of r = 0.9 kpc
