Storage ring design optimization for FEL operation
Description
The basic physics of electron storage rings and some limitations are discussed. For high beam current density and short damping times, the main limitation comes from the Touschek effect. However, peak currents of a few hundred amperes per bunch can be expected at a beam energy of 1 GeV, and more than one bunch should be filled in order to maximize total FEL power
