Description
As a result of the introduction of the new international system of SI units new terms will apply also in the fields of radiological protection and radiology. According to a 1975 decision of the General Conference for Weights and Measures the units of rad and curie will be replaced by gray (for the energy dose) and becquerel (for the radioactivity of a radioactive substance). No new term has as yet been determined for the unit of the equivalent dose. The ICRU recommended that the new units be introduced over a period of transition of ten years. The EC obliged its member states to make the new units legally binding as of April 21, 1978, but to maintain the validity of the old terms of roentgen, rad, rem and curie up until the end of 1979. An ordinance to this end is being prepared for the Federal Republic of Germany by the Federal Ministry of Economics. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Mit der Einfuehrung des Internationalen Einheitensystems SI wird auch fuer Strahlenschutz und Radiologie eine neue Regelung der Einheitennamen wirksam. Das Gray (fuer die Energiedosis) und das Becquerel (fuer die Aktivitaet einer radioaktiven Substanz) ersetzen nach einem Beschluss der Generalkonferenz fuer Mass und Gewicht von 1975 Rad und Curie. Ein neuer Einheitenname fuer die Aequivalentdosis wurde noch nicht eingefuehrt. Die neuen Einheiten sollen ab April 1978 gesetzliche Gueltigkeit erhalten, die alten Einheiten Roentgen, Rad, Rem und Curie zunaechst bis Ende 1979 weiter gelten. (orig.)Additional details
