Demonstration of the cruciate ligaments of the knee joint by means of computerized tomography

Description

The present work was aimed to demonstrate the problems of conventional X-ray diagnosis of cruciate ligament lesions. Experimental investigations on anatomical preparations were to clarify whether reproducible demonstration of the cruciate ligaments is possible with the aid of computerized tomography. For that purpose suitable test conditions and measuring parameters for the computerized-tomography method had to be found. The influence of different factors of picture generation and reconstruction by means of computerized tomography on the quality of the pictures and the patients' dose load was investigated. By the clinical application of CT arthrography the morphological alteration in case of cruciate ligament lesions and the sensitivity and specificity of this new method for the detection of fresh and old cruciate ligament lesions were to be determined. Abstract (German)

In der vorliegenden Arbeit sollten die Probleme der konventionellen, radiologischen Kreuzbanddiagnostik aufgezeigt werden. Experimentelle Studien am anatomischen Praeparat sollten klaeren, ob mit Hilfe der Computertomographie (CT) eine reproduzierbare Darstellung der Kreuzbaender moeglich ist. Dazu mussten geeignete Untersuchungsbedingungen und computertomographische Messparameter gefunden werden. Der Einfluss unterschiedlicher Faktoren der computertomographischen Bilderzeugung und -rekonstruktion auf Bildguete und Dosisbelastung des Patienten wurde untersucht. Die klinische Anwendung der CT-Arthrographie sollte die morphologischen Veraenderungen bei Kreuzbandverletzungen bestimmen und die Empfindlichkeit und Spezifitaet dieses neuen Verfahrens fuer den Nachweis frischer und alter Kreuzbandverletzungen ermitteln.
