Major problems in improveaent of the reliability of NPP equipment

The main problems and measures to increase the reliability and quality level of NPP equipment and systems are determined in a general form. Annual outages because of NPP equipment repair make up 25-30% of time and result in essential decrease of electric power generation. The results of technicalnd economic analysis and procession of the statistical data on equipment failures, in particular for NPP with WWER, are given. The following problems are outlined among the main ones: provision of effective control and accountancy of the equipment performance, introduction of data retrival systems on the base of computers for acquisition and analysis of the data on equipment reliability, choice of optimal periodicity and regimes of the equipment maintenance, investigation of the physical processes and mechanisms of damage origin and propagation development of the scientific methods to evaluate and forecast the reliability of the systems and equipment. It is noted that reliability increase does not only affect NPP operation efficiency in the whole but its safety as well
