Quantitative evaluation of the dynamics of postradiation changes in the cerebral microcirculation of animals

Description

Correlation of microcirculation damage and radionecrosis formation after local X-irradiation of brain zones of intact rats has been investigated. Radiation dose is 4000 R. The method of computer analysis has been used to obtain quantitative characteristics of a capillary network, which require the analysis of a large amount of statistic material. This method permits to estimate parameters which are practically inaccessible for general microscopy. The computer has been used to obtain the following parameters: the mean number of capillaries in the field of vision for energy region investigated, the mean cross section square of one capillary and the summary square of all capillaries in the field of vision, and capillary distribution according to size. The results obtained point to the presence of correlation between initial density of capillary network and the development of radiation pathology: the less vascularization degree is, the more radiation effect is expressed
