Determination of mass and width of W at LEP200

Creators

  • 1. Tata Inst. of Fundamental Research, Bombay (India)

Description

After a very useful run of physics at the Zo peak the reaction e+e→W+W- are studied at LEP200. Longitudinal polarization of W will become available besides the transverse one. The approved integrated luminosity is 500 pb-1 corresponding to ≅ 8000 events. Aims of LEP200 are precision measurement of Mw and Γw; determination of triple gauge boson couplings; and search of new particles. Three methods have been studied regarding the measurement of Mw and Γw: direct reconstruction; shape of the excitation curve; lepton end point energy. Last two methods are not very useful. Precision expected for Mw is ≅ 50 MeV; precision expected for Γw is ≅ 100 MeV. 17 refs., 9 figs., 2 tabs
