Description

Spherically accretion of matter onto massive objects (Schwarzschild black holes) is one of the processes responsible for the heating of a proton plasma up to ultra-relativistic temperatures. Using the neutrino and antineutrino energy production spectra in a relativistic plasma in the temperature range 1011-1013 K, we derive the expected neutrino and antineutrino energy spectra from matter accreting spherically onto massive objects. The maxima of these spectra are at the energies 13.3, 15.8 MeV for neutrinos, antineutrinos, and electroneutrinos, respectively, for Mach's number approx.=1, or 8.9, 10, and 10 MeV for Mach's number approx.=2. From the computed spectra, the luminosity of a black hole of 10 Msub(sun) and with mass accretion rate M=10-8 Msub(sun)/yr is approx.=1034 and approx.=1033 erg/s for Mach's numbers approx.=1 and approx.=2, respectively. The emissivity of the same object and for the same Mach's numbers is approx.=1038 and approx.=1037 neutrinos/s, respectively. The luminosity and emissivity of all kinds of neutrinos (esub(μ), anti esub(μ), esub(e)) are almost the same. (orig.)
