Heating of ionospheric plasma by stochastic electromagnetic radiation

Description

In the present communication it is proposed to use wideband stochastic electromagnetic radiation to heat the ionospheric (or a laboratory) plasma. In this case, as shown by Bass et al., the efficiency with which energy can be transmitted to the electron component of the plasma is determined by the inverse correlation time τc-1, which can be considerably high than the collision frequency, τc-1 much-gt v. this means that the power of the radiation source can be reduced and its frequency can be raised, allowing it to operate on the entire ionosphere. In this paper, we give estimates for the plasma heating efficiency by stochastic electromagnetic radiation. 2 refs
