Singularity structure of the two-point function in quantum field theory in curved spacetime

Description
In the point-splitting for renormalizing the stress-energy tensor of a scalar field in curved spacetime, it is assumed that the anticommutator expectation value G(chi, chi')= has a singularity of the Hadamard form as chi → chi'. We prove here that if G(chi, chi') has the Hadamard singularity structure in an open neighborhood of a Cauchy surface, then it does so everywhere, i.e., Cauchy evolution preserves the Hadamard singularity structure. In particular, in a spacetime which is flat below a Cauchy surface, for the 'in' vacuum state G(chi, chi') is of the Hadamard form everywhere, and thus the point-splitting prescription in this case has been rigorously shown to give meaningful, finite answers. Abstract (German)
In der Vorschrift fuer die Punkt-Aufspaltung zur Renormalisierung des Spannungs-Energie-Tensors eines skalaren Feldes in einer gekruemmten Raumzeit wird angenommen, dass der Erwartungswert des Antikommutators G(chi, chi') = an der Stelle chi → chi' eine Singularitaet von der Hadamard-Form besitzt. Wir beweisen hier, dass, wenn G(chi, chi') die Struktur einer Hadamard-Singularitaet in einer offenen Umgebung einer Cauchy-Flaeche hat, dann hat sie diese ueberall, d.h. die Cauchy-Entwicklung erhaelt die Struktur einer Hadamard-Singualitaet. Insbesondere wurde fuer den Fall, dass eine Raumzeit unter einer Cauchy-Flaeche flach ist, da der 'in'-Vakuumzustand G(chi, chi') ueberall Hadamard-Form hat, klar gezeigt, dass die Vorschrift fuer die Punkt-Aufspaltung sinnvolle, endliche Antworten ergibt.
