Characterisation of ductile crack growth behaviour based on energy dissipation within intense strain region at crack tip

  • 1. Tohoku University, Sendai (Japan)

Description

In order to analyse the formation and extension behaviour of intense strain region with stable crack growth, recrystallisation-etch technique, is applied to a wide variety of elastic-plastic fracture toughness specimens in steel A533B-1. For the purpose of quantitative evaluation, the energy dissipation (or plastic work) within intense strain regions, Wsub(p) is measured at the mid-plane of specimens. Influence of specimen size, geometry and loading configuration upon Wsub(p)-R, J-R and delta-R curves are examined. In conclusion the characterization of ductile crack growth can be performed more widely by means Wsub(p)-approach
