Photodynamic action on nucleic acids and their components

Description
It could be demonstrated that for pH 7-10, several sensitizers, including rose bengal, methylene blue, hematoporphyrine and thionine, sensitize the photooxidation of deoxyguanosine by predominantly singlet oxygen mechanisms, although non-singlet oxygen mechanisms appear to be possible under some conditions. In contrast some sensitizers such as flavins and pterins sensitize photooxidation of deoxyguanosine to a relatively greater extent by non-singlet oxygen mechanisms. (author)
