The Pr-Mn-Cu and Nd-Mn-Cu systems

Description
The methods of X-ray diffraction and metallographical analyses have been used to plot the isothermal cross sections of the phase diagrams for the Pr-Mn-Cu and Nd-Mn-Cu systems at 870 K for alloys containing 0 to 0.333 at. p. REM, and at 670 K for alloys containing more than 0.333 at. p. REM. The occurrence regions of compounds with CaCu5 type structure in the binary Pr(Nd)-Cu systems corresponding to PrCusub(4.0-4.6) and NdCusub(4.3-4.9) compositions are specified. The solubility of manganese in binary compounds of the Pr(Nd)-Cu systems and of copper in Nd6Mn23 are determined. The existence of ternary compounds in REM (Mn, Cu)6 and REM(Mn, Cu)11 possessing the homogeneity regions as to transition metal, is identified in each of the systems. Using the powder method it has been found that the structure of Pr(Mn, Cu)11 compounds belongs to the Ce(Mnsub(0.55)Nisub(0.45))11 crystal type
