Description

The paper gives a picture of the current understanding of deviations from the selection and intensity rules of the rotational and vibrational models. Starting from a general treatment of the collective quadrupole motion of even-even nuclei, the derivation of expressions for the static and transition moments of type E2, M1, E0 and the E2/M1, E0/E2 mixing ratios are discussed. The rotational model selection rules and the first order bandmixing relations are given as special cases. The Pairing-Plus-Quadrupole interaction method for the low-lying states of even-even nuclei is discussed in some detail. Comparison with some other approaches is also given. (Auth.)
