Calculation of shell correlations to the semiempirical formulae for nuclear masses

  • 1. Joint Inst. for Nuclear Research, Dubna (USSR)

Description

Investigation of deltaE corrections to the semiempirical nuclear mass formulae is continued. The nucleon strong interaction in the particle-hole channel and the pair correlations of the superconductor type are taken into account in a consistent way. The accuracy of the developed method is discussed, the dependence of deltaE on the involved parameters is considered in detail. The errors in the deltaE calculation may comprise approximately 1-2 MeV, so the method is applicable only in the cases, when a better accuracy in study of nuclei properties is not necessary. The dependence of deltaE on Z and N near 208Pb and in region 110<=Z<=120, 174<=N<=188 is analyzed with account of the pair correlations. It is shown that the dependence is essentially different in these two cases. Comparing the results of calculations of deltaE(Z,N) for these two regions of nuclei, one concludes that for 110<=Z<=120, 174<=N<=188 there are no nuclei containing ''magic'' numbers of nucleons. Examples of estimates of α-decay periods are presented for nuclei with large Z,N
