Recent Improvements in the Argonne 7.7-M Bent-Crystal Spectrometer

  • 1. Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, IL (United States)

Description

Recent improvements to the Argonne 7.7-m bent-crystal spectrometer have led to a doubling of its resolving power and to at least a 4-fold improvement in its sensitivity (ratio of diffraction peak to background) over the whole range of the spectrometer, and an improvement of 20-fold or more above 2 MeV. The energy range of the spectrometer was extended to cover the full (n, γ) spectrum from 20 keV to 6 MeV. (author)
